Who Can Help Me How To Consolidate Debt? |
By Alisdair Cosgrove
The number of people who find themselves in debt every year runs up into the millions. Debt consoliation information might be something you would be interested in if you are one of these people.
A mortgage lender or a local bank or your credit union should be able to help you get information on debt consolidation. The most readily available source of information, of course, is the Internet. Do a search using such terms as "credit problems", "repair credit rating", "consolidate debt" and so forth.
The state of your credit rating or credit score could help determine if you will be able to obtain a debt consolidation loan. This may not be an option available to you if you do not have collateral to secure a loan.
The home equity loan is probably the most reliable form of debt consolidation that is available. To learn about this, go to your mortgage lender and present the total amount of your debts along with a list of your creditors. The fact that you have a home mortgage,
and therefore have collateral, may make this one of the best options for debt consolidation.
Debt consolidation information also includes such options as credit counseling, where a credit counselor works with you and your creditors to find solutions. A credit card company will sometimes agree to reduce the amount you owe, if you make payments on a regular basis through the credit counselor. This is what is known as debt settlement, debt negotiation or debt arbitration and it is much more preferable than bankruptcy.
Before beginning the process of your debt repayment, whatever method you choose to use, there are a few things that you will have to do.
First of all, you have to accurately determine how much money you owe to all of your creditors. After you have gathered your bills together, sit down and take a deep breath and make a list of ways to begin making your repayments, because once the information is down on paper you will know the best way to proceed.
It is a very worthwhile feeling to be free from debt, no matter how you approach it; whether it is through the option of a home equity loan or with the services of a credit counseling company or through debt consolidation. Once you have paid your debts, your credit rating will improve and you will be out from under a very heavy weight.
It is important to find a way to face your problems concerning debt repayment and congratulate yourself when you have done so squarely and unflinchingly to find a solution you can live with.
From this point forward, the only time you should use a credit card is in an extreme emergency, or when cash is not available or is not an option. Do everything that you can to avoid getting into debt again by using credit as wisely as possible and repaying your debt very quickly.
